ISOARC gouging carbons are designed specifically for the air carbon arc metal removal process, which melts metal with an electric arc, then blows it away with a jet of ordinary shop compressed air. ISOARC carbons contain a precisely formulated blend of carbon and graphite that produces the most efficient metal removal performance. They offer excellent arc stability, superior metal removal rates, uniform diameter and clean slag – free grooves or cuts.
Available in a number of types and sizes, ISOARC carbons are ideal for a broad range of applications, such as creating Ugrooves for weld joint preparations, removing old welds, gouging out cracks, cleaning and repairing castings, removing hard
surface metal, and for rough machining.
They gouge, cut, bevel, pierce or flush off any metal including stainless steel, carbon steel, manganese steel, chrome-moly alloys, gray, malable and ductile iron, copper, aluminium, magnesium and nickel alloys – fast precisely and economically.
ISOARC carbons are made for use in any type of gouging torches connected to a D.C. power supply and compressed air source. The amperage required depends on the electrode diameter; an electrode is usually selected to make grooves or cuts
slightly larger than its diameter.

To employ the process you need:
- A D. C. Power Source
- A Gouging Torch
- “ISOARC” Gouging Carbons
- Compressed air (5.6 to 7 kg/cm²)
The Air Carbon Arc process involves:
- The striking of an arc between the metal work piece and a gouging electrode
- The melting of metal through use of the arc, and
- Removal of the molten metal with compressed air that flows parallel to the electrode (air and current flow to the torch
through a special coaxial hose)

For gouging, cutting, bevelling, piercing and flushing metal, a Gouging Torch removes most kinds of metal.
The “Air-Carbon-Arc” gouging process is more economical than burning, chipping, grinding etc. This method cuts or gouges metal by melting base metal with an electric arc and blowing away molten metal with high velocity compressed air. Since this is a physical (not chemical) process, our gouging torches can be used on most metals with minimal deformation because of their low heat input.
The S-15 Torch is designed for general purpose gouging applications. The S-15 torch is used by:
- Fabricators, tanks shops, shipyards, heavy industrial plants, construction firms, quarries and mines
- For plate edge preparation, back-gouging welds, removal of old or defective welds
- Ideal for repair and general maintenance of equipment
All torches will accommodate round and flat electrodes. By using flat electrodes, the following are some applications:
- Selective scarfing of carbon and low alloy steel billets
- Removing surface cracks from dies providing a smooth base for the new deposit
- Removing hard facing

Gouging Foundry Torch
S - 66
This triple action torch is engineered for heavy foundry
applications. The heavy-duty body accommodates heads
that removes defects and wash pads with ease and performs
general purpose cleaning.
The S-66 can be equipped with a standard 7” air-cooled cable, a 7” extra heavy duty cable (EHD) or a 7” water-cooled cable. An optional 10” cable (air-cooled or water-cooled) is available. The water-cooled cable is non-swivel –
minimizing over-heating during heavy gouging applications.
The 340° swivel cable supplies both power and air to the triple action torch. It prevents cable twisting, minimizing cable damage.
